A Reflection Of The Year

The festive season is coming to a close, which means in a few days it will be 2016! So we wanted to have a little reflect on the year and share some of the things we learnt and achieved in 2015.

We Bought A House

We decided to save for a house in 2014, and it seems like it's taken us absolutely ages to get to where we are now. When you are 24 and you make that decision to save a deposit (knowing that you'll probably still be living at home when you're 26), you have to push through the urge to give in and rent! Although at times it felt like we weren't doing anything with our lives, it was all leading up to this! 2016 is going to be a huge year for us when we finally move, and it will bring many a blog post with it! So stay tuned!

New Jobs

This year we were both so lucky to finally land our dream jobs! It was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster (for lack of a better phrase..) but we got through it! There were times when we felt like it was never going to happen and our degrees may have been a complete waste of time after all, but we persisted and everything just seems to have fallen into place!

Our 10 Year Anniversary

This was the year that we celebrated 10 years together! It's so weird when we think back to being 15, and how we pictured our lives being at 25! When we look at 15 year olds now, we don't see them in the same way as we saw ourselves at that age! We knew how serious we were even back then, and we were right because we stood the test of time. We survived 3 years of University in a long distance relationship, and we think what with moving in together at the beginning of next year, celebrating our 10 years together kind of closed that first chapter of our relationship perfectly!

An Amazing Trip To Italy

When we started saving for a house, we didn't plan on having a big holiday in the middle of it at all! But we realised that if we took some money out of our savings, it would only hold us back by 2 months! And in the grand scheme of things, 2 months isn't long at all if you get a nice trip in return. We wanted to do something special for our anniversary, so we jetted off to Venice and then Sorrento. Neither of us had been on a proper holiday for 5 years, so it was nice to get away and finally reward ourselves for our strict budgeting! Which leads us onto...

Learning To Manage Money And Stick To A Tight Budget

When we first came home from Uni, we paid off our overdrafts, David learnt to drive...but the rest of our wages we just spent on ourselves! We went shopping when we wanted, ate out all the time and didn't worry about budgets at all! We're so glad we had that time to enjoy it, as we knew we'd probably never have that luxury again! When it was time to start thinking about our future, we really had to be strict. We decided to save quite a large portion of our monthly income, which meant writing down a very tight weekly budget, and sticking to it! The best advice we can give about that, is always allow a certain amount of money for yourself each week as 'fun money'. It will stop you going insane, and stop you from feeling guilty when you treat yourself to something.

We Said Goodbye To 2 Bunnies

We didn't do a post about Billy and Winnie dying, but we thought we'd share it with you here. Hayley had had Winnie for about 7 years, but over the past year or so he had really gone downhill. He was on a constant cycle of getting the same 2 illnesses, and he was just getting weaker and weaker. Eventually, we (and the vet) decided the kindest thing was to put him to sleep, so now he's at peace. Unfortunately, Billy was still in the prime of his life when he passed away. He was only 2, and still a happy bunny hopping around the garden. But one day he was unresponsive, and even after some treatment he quickly became worse in the space of a couple of days. He sadly passed away in his favourite spot underneath the kitchen table. RIP Winnie & Billy x

We Started This Blog

A year ago we decided we NEEDED something extra curricular in our lives to do together, where we could let out a tiny bit of creativity! At that time we felt in a bit of a rut, and this blog really helped bring us out of it! We've had a lot of fun with it in 2015, but we think we're going to take it in another direction in 2016! Keep your eyes pealed for a post on that soon.

What have you learnt and achieved this year?
