Paris- Day un

Paris- Day un. Kitsch B&Bs, macaroons and lots of champagne!

Day 1 of Paris started very early! We all woke up at 1am, and David kindly drove us all to Bedford station. We then headed towards London St Pancras to get the Eurostar to Gare du Nord, and even though we were tired- we were so excited! We hopped onto the train (coffees and croissants in hand) and slept nearly the whole way there!

After adjusting to the Metro, and navigating our way down to 'Vitry sur-Seine' we finally found our B&B 'La Maison Bacana'. It was so kitsch and quirky and right up my street! They had so many cool pictures and little trinkets everywhere and the breakfast was so good every morning. It really was worth every penny (and that was about £30 a night!) Amazing.

Sacré-Coeur

After we had put our bags away in our room, we ventured out into the city. We headed towards Montmartre to mooch around the shops and see the Sacré-Coeur. We grabbed some lunch on the go and ate it on the hill.

We had a wander through all the narrow streets and found some really cute shops. It was my mission to eat macaroons whilst I was in France and I got that out of the way pretty sharpish- they are my favourite after all! Obviously we stopped for drinks at about 11am, it would be a crime not to! We found a really sweet pub right at the top of the hill and sipped away whilst listening to the street music. It was the perfect start to the trip.

Moulin Rouge

I then took Hannah and Stacey to the Moulin Rouge which was close by, as Stacey is in love with the film. Understandably, they were a little disappointed. If you have seen the film, you sort of imagine it to look magical in real life, but honestly it looks a little dated and run down. I had already been warned not to go inside as it's a huge waste of money, and I think we were all glad we didn't. The rest of the area was pretty funny though, with the 'shops' nearby!

After the disappointment of the Moulin Rouge, we went to see the Cathédrale Notre Dame. This is a beautiful building right in the heart of Paris, and according to our lovely B&B hosts it is also in the University district- i.e lots of things going on around it. We had a little walk around and admired the quaint cafes and restaurants nearby, naturally finding ourselves in one of them for a glass of Champagne!

We knew we didn't want to go up the Eiffel Tower at night but we still wanted to see it all lit up, so after our drinks and some dinner we went to see it! It was so pretty, but I was gutted that the girls didn't get to see it with the flashing lights! They must only do that now and again, but I think they both still enjoyed it.

By this point we had been awake and walking around for about 19 hours! We knew it was time to admit defeat and headed back to our B&B for a good nights sleep.
